THINKING BEYOND THE FAILED IDEA OF DEVELOPMENT
A review of literature and mapping of design’s intersection with development demonstrates the many ways pioneers such as Buckminster Fuller (in 1969) had already begun to question the siloed mentality of design, the specialization which Fuller believed precludes comprehensive thinking and quashes spontaneity and curiosity (Fuller, 2008). He discusses how these instituted processes lead to myopic worldview and this study argues that not much has changed since his work.
This study argues that solutions will be best conceived from a more responsible and holistic worldview and culturally oriented practice. However, development was not designed to benefit the whole.
