Good day

Does SPSS Casewise diagnostics produce the variables which are a chosen standard deviation from the mean? Or are these standard deviations calculated based on another item?

I read an Journal article regarding outlier detection which states that the method of using the standard deviation around the mean method is incorrect, and that the absolute deviation around median is a much better outlier detection method . I think that the casewise diagnostics method in SPSS uses the mean method but I am not sure.
