Currently, my colleagues and I are in the first stage of preparing a article about gender determination of Long-eared Owls (Asio otus) based on plumage coloration and biometric measurements supported of DNA analyzes. Miguel Angel Gómez Serrano: In one part of article we want to compare our data with similar in Europe and discuss about them. Also we want to do statistically test whether it is really possible to correctly determine sex based on plumage characteristics and body measurements and what is degree of precision because beside morphological we used also DNA analyzes for gendering. Otherwise Long eared Owl sexing is not so easy and simple as it is written in determination keys. Many males have dark or buff coloration and measurements often overlapping with females (our sample is more than 500 trapped and measured individuals).
