This is a variety of coca that used to grow along the Pacific coast of Peru, but currently no one knows if the plant still exists. Perhaps at some botanical gardens somewhere? If you know anything, please let me know. Many thanks.
You can check out USDA-ARS service at Tropic Agriculture Research Station (TARS) for " Introduction, Increase, Maintenance, Evaluation and Distribution of Cacao Germplasm" ( http://www.ars.usda.gov/Research/docs.htm?docid=4371 ) and ask the staff there.
JOHNSON and Al. have studied many specimens of "truxillense" from Bolivia. Here you can find their full article: http://aob.oxfordjournals.org/content/95/4/601.full.pdf
Thank you Mauro. Much appreciated indeed. Honestly, I did not know truxillense existed in Bolivia. All papers I read says that it is from the Pacific coast.
Do you have by chance a picture of the plant and of the leaves? I would like to see a close-up picture of the leaves. my address: [email protected] or [email protected]
In the work that I linked there is the email address of the first author ([email protected]) I think the best thing is to write to him for further information.
Personally I think it's doubtful the real possibility to distinguish mere varieties (truxilense is not a subspecies) that should have no taxonomic significance, but only a little significant morphological difference, often not constant.
Thank you everyone for the help. I finally got in contact with someone from a Botanical Garden in Maryland and received pictures of the coca leaves. In particular, thank you Mauro for the advice.
