I found this structure on a kind of flintstone at the shore of a bathing pond in Northern Germany. Does anyone know what kind of structure that is? Skin? A leaf?
thank you very much for your comment! As a biologist I have no idea or means how to investigate the mineral composition. Do you know anybody who may be interested in such a specimen, I would of cause donate it?!
As stated by Dr. Jafar, it seems to be a bryozoan, but in order to confirm it it would be useful to have an idea on the size. ¿Could you provide a scale?
In the left side of the sample there is another smaller specimen that also resembles a branch of a bryozoan colony.
I made two pictures with a scale on my Windows phone (my Fuji camera appears to have given up the ghost...). I hope the specimen can be seen better now!
I agree with Dr Jafar that the structure resembles very much a bryozoan. Alternatively, a sponge comes to my mind due to the needles ("spiculae")-structures in the vicinity. Erik, you could visit the "Landesmuseum Hannover" where they have regularily open door on Saturday mornings for hobby fossil collectors for identification of their findings.
