I am working on genetic analysis of seed yield and its component in soybean using SNPs marker. With a mission to find out the QTL conditioning seed yield and its component in soybean. I am thinking if I have answer to my question, then it becomes very helpful in designing my research experiment
I do not believe there is a "specific gene" controlling yield in any crop species. There are several genes and QTL loci responsible for yield and quality since its a complex trait. You, most likely, should look at research done in QTL and try to develop a marker linked to those loci. For what you intend, you should do a proper state of art to see where present research is....
1. The paper (2014) posted by Anil actually is a pretty good one. The authors were trying to identify genetic loci associated with seed yield-related traits, and they did find 10 QTLs significantly associated with seed yield-related traits. Remember, the high seed yield is the results of several related traits' combined work.
2. Especially the authors have located the locations of these 10 QTLs on their created linkage groups (Fig. 2). They found that "Considerable attention should be given to chromosomes B2, D1a and L due to their stable QTLs for days to flowering, days to maturity and 100 seed weight." See the 'Discussion' section, yellow-highlights.
3. Since each linkage group (ex.B2, D1a and L) corresponds to one chromosome, so, as long as you can figure out which linkage group corresponds to which one of the 20 soybean chromosomes, then your question will be answered.
