If you want to get some good boundary conditions for the stratosphere there is a wealth of satellite measurements available on e.g TEMIS (www.temis.nl), or the ODIN satellite (http://odin-osiris.usask.ca/sites/default/files/media/pdf/l2dataformat.pdf) or MLS data (http://mls.jpl.nasa.gov/)
