As I'm thinking about my methodology for researching strengths-based and high performance organizations, I'm struck by two thoughts. One is the number of studies that are reductionist in scope and methodology yet researching concepts that are, by definition, systems based. The other is whether, in a doctoral world that demands one researches a problem
I think you should review the methodologies that propose working with interdisciplinary approaches related to participatory action research. You know about it?

Strength based practice (SBP) is mainly a social work practice theory that emphasizes people's self determination and strengths. SBP is a philosophy and a way of viewing clients as resourceful and resilient in the face of adversity. SBP is a client led, with a focus on future outcomes and strengths that people bring to a problem or crisis. When applied beyond the field of social work, SBP is calling in the name of strength based approach (SBA).

Hmm, looks like my question got cut short. Mu apologies for that. I was thinking about traditional doctoral approaches that focus on solving a problem, which seems deficit based. I asked to phrase my problem statement as an opportunity statement, to align with the research topic and was told no. Quite the irony!
Sandra - yes, I'm familiar with action research and am on that kind of track with a grounded theory methodology planned, but interdisciplinary is not an option, sadly. Robyn, I'll certainly look up some of your work. Thank you!
Senthilvel - I'm not convinced SB practice is primarily a social work practice, although definitely, it's a big area in that field. Leaders and coaches can, and do, use strengths-based practices too, as do teachers and school principles, and many others. Thank you for the references - I will follow the links.
I'm just, as noted, frustrated by the irony of researching strengths-based organizations and being required to use deficit-based approaches to doing so.
