there's been a fair amount of work done on issues related to forest hydrology and plant species - studies linking water uptake-rooting depth- plant nutrient status, google Hydraulic Lift for instance. Some others and I have looked at this in the Everglades forests at the species level as well as plant community level. Others have looked at hydrology and plant distribution in the Florida scrub (Archbold biological station); for instance see link below

This has been extensively studied in a wide variety of forested ecosystems. Results vary greatly, but site water balance can be altered by species replacement if it changes the way energy is captured at the site. See this paper for examples:

Also, there is may be one easier way  divided into two steps which is indirect method for may solving your question. First step is that  it may researched studies that "effects of tree species on site index" then second is should be searched title that "effects of site index on forest hydrology or hydrological parameters (water quality etc.)". Finally, as an indirectly, It can be predicted that "effects of tree species on any hydrological parameters". It's one of the little opinion...
