I am investigating the validity of Stress Surveys and for all of searching databases I cannot find a single one that has been validated against actual outcomes. Most of the surveys do not report any validation data, and those that do, tend to be validated against other self-report Mental Health survey questions. I would love for someone to direct me to a reliable and valid occupational stress survey. Thanks.
Validation data exist, but for the most of it is spread throughout the literature in individual stress studies, rather than being found in one place and identified as such. For example, Spector, Dwyer, & Jex (1988) report relationships of self-reported stressors with self-report strains that are not mental health, including doctor visits and physical symptoms. They also report relationships of self-report stressors with supervisor reports of some outcomes, like job performance. In addition they report relationships of supervisor-reported stressors (of the employees) with employee strains. If you are looking for data that do not come from surveys, this is more limited but does exist as well. A good place to start would be Ganster and Rosen (2013).

Perhaps look at the 10 items Perceived Stress Scale. It has been utilized in many occupational settings. It is short and simple.

Thanks Kurubaran. I have looked at the evidence,. This all refers to reliability and internal validation. No work appears to have been done externally validating the measure against actual stress referrals or treatment. As such, it is still very much in the development stage.
