I am meassuring the concentration of iron (II) in cultures of iron (III) reducing bacteria and I want to know if citrate can interfere in the determination of iron (II) by the ferrozine method. Citrate is present in the medium due to is necessary to mantain the iron (III) in solution.
I think that the only undesired consequence is the -N=N- protonation and reductive bond leakage leading to a -NH2 (......) 2HN- and ring opening
it would depend on [citrate] [ferrozine] T and pH

Citrate ions form chelate with ferrous. However, in solution at pH near to 5 it releases ferrous ions easily in the presence of strong chelating agents like ferrozine . A coloured chelate with ferrozine is formed.So ,it should interfere very mildly only at very high conc. ,say, 500mg/L
