I am not sure if it’s the same at every institution, but our supervisor only reads our draft once, or each section once.
I overthink, and fear I would do really bad, and when the draft is returned to me, I would need to do so many edits. So to prevent this, if another academic read and confirmed I was on the right lines, I would feel better.

The solution to this type of problem is to submit the dissertation of the working text of the doctoral dissertation for additional consultation to the professor, who is also a specialist and authority in a given field. However, the key issue is usually the result of the evaluation of the supervisor's doctoral dissertation, i.e. the professor who, as part of the doctoral seminar or doctoral dissertation, manages the process of writing a doctoral dissertation and formulates specific guidelines in this matter for the doctoral student writing his doctoral dissertation.

Get a friend to read it because any dissertation should be written so that lay people can understand it :)
I totally disagree with Andrew - just think of mathematics. I also happen to think that your supervisor's attitude to reading drafts is wrong. I know their attitude is quite common but I still disagree because the PhD process is both a research and a learning process. How can you learn to write without regular feedback on your writing?
Having said that, it seems unlikely that you get another academic to read your thesis draft - we usually have enough to do with our won PhD students. If you have other PhD students working on similar topics around you, mutual reading would be beneficial. In particular, jointly going through the comments your supervisor makes on others' theses would be a good way to prepare your own.
