The additive should not influence the pH value significantly, should be stable at high temperatures (during autoclaving) or suitable for sterile filtration;
The suspension will additionally contain vitamins and micronutrients and will be stored in a stirred-vessel.
Thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately, a saturated salt solution would not be an option. Starch suspension should be fed into bioreactors, more precisely anaerobic digesters containing sludge. High concentrations of some salts are shown to cause a process inhibition. Relatively homogeneous suspension will be achieved by an intensive mixing, however, I would like to make sure that no starch will be sedimented in the vessel and in the hoses between the storage vessel and reactors.
Thank you for your suggestions! Unfortunately, I should avoid any addition of the mentioned chamicals, as they could affect microorganisms in the reactors and the initial medium characteristics. I will have to focus more on mechanical methods, i.e. intensive mixing of the substrate suspension.
Thank you for your answer! Meanwhile, I have also tried to use a pitched blade agitator and it is doing the work (the total suspension volume is only around 7 L). It can even easily resuspend sedimented starch, in case the stirring is not active all the time.
