I do not know; seeing that according to literature, Hernrardia x Eremopyrum is feasible, therefore your idea may be worth a try, if there is a valid goal. In my unpublished work at AAFC, I was able to get embryos from weird combinations. Often, the embryos died at a very early stage. But the U2.5 medium for ovule or very small embryo culture gave the best results for the most difficult crosses. The medium is published (Comeau et al, 1992, Plant Science 81: 117-125.). It is hard work. Try synthetic auxin stimulation of embryo formation. You need the best technical help to do this. Try many wheat parents. Perhaps better use a Japanese parent like Fukuho, Asakaze, or other more modern crossable wheat lines (I dislike Chinese Spring, a bad start for any practical use). Another piece of advice, have the best growth conditions for parents and progenies, and use colchicine on the progenies, BEFORE trying to backcross. Backcrossing is the most difficult part. Good luck!
Dear Dr Andre Comeau, thank you very much for your answer! Could I ask you to send to me the article where you have described the medium for ovule and very small embyo culture? Comeau et al, 1992, Plant Science 81: 117-125. Kind regards!
