E.g. activators of alcohol Alcohol dehydrogenase or some other enzymes that directly effect the level of alcohol in the blood or the speed of alcohol elimination.
Unfortunatelly, my question is rather focused on the pharmacological possibilities.
The main question is, if exists some drugs that could positively affect alcohol metabolism?
In case of ethanol, low Michaelis constant for class I. ADH shows that the drug that would enhance activity of ADH would not bring desired goal. This means that the enzyme ADH is fully saturated with substrate after the first few drinks and that zero-order kinetics is adequate to describe the declining phase of ethanol elimination.
Is there some any other important ways how to eliminate alcohol from the blood? Some drug that would activate e.g.CYP2E1?
Your question is of interest; but it is hard to give answer. I could guess your interest on finding a drug that would be efficient in external alcohol elimination. Metabolism of alcohol in the body is complex, depending on several factors: alcohol absorption, alcohol dehydrogenase biosynthesis, the redox couple NAD+/NADH value and others. The review on alcohol metabolism by Cederbaum 2012 (advised by Jiri) is really important one. If you have not yet read it, I encourage you to do. From my side and tentatively I would like to attract your attention on the use of Niacin (nicotinamide, vit. B3), precursor of NAD+; thus to modify the redox fraction, NAD+/NADH in a physiological manner that would allow the dehydrogenase reaction to work further towards the alcohol oxidation direction. This is a just an idea which seems to be with some rational logic.
