I am preparing nanoparticles using solvent evaporation method. Question is: the solvent evaporation from any mixture depends on what factor exactly? Solvent vapor pressure or Boiling Point? How do I make sure in a simple way that my solvent got evaporated and not the water got evaporated instead?
Boiling point and vapor pressure are obviously strongly related, however, what counts for your application is solvent - water interaction. Better to use solvent-water mixtures with no azeotrope. Even then you would be able to shift solvent composition. Acetone would be a good solvent to work with if it dissolves the solid.
Thanks, I am actually using Acetone, THF or Acetonitrile. Since DCM is immiscible i prefer not to use and keep my formulation simple.
I wanted an explanation for what I am doing and I still do not understand why people are using demethyformamide. can it be evaporated from a water solution?
I think water will evaporate prior to DMF, --- but DMF will slowly hydrolyze in water, especially at acidic pH - forming formic acid and dimethylamine.
