We conducted 2-week dosing (i.v.) toxicity study of an antibiotic drug in rats (n=3). Time course urinary biomarker (Kim-1, Ngal) changes were checked in the study. As a results, transient increases (x5 of control) in Kim-1 and Ngal were noted (2/3, Day 3). The levels of these biomarkers were recovered to the control revel after 2-week dosing. One animal showed obstructive nephropathy, the other did not in the histopathology.

Does anyone have such transient increase in Kim-1 or Ngal in toxicity study?

I’d like to gather the opinion or comments of the possible cause of such transient increases of Kim-1 or Ngal.
