I would love to hear what people have come across in relation to language accessibility in publications. Ideally the journal focuses on Entomology and/or biodiversity, but I am also just curious on a broader scale if language friendly journals exist.
Dear Erin Krichilsky that's an interesting question. Unfortunately I have no idea for a journal focuses on Entomology and/or biodiversity as we are chemists. In our field of research, there is a highly renowned journal by the name of Angewandte Chemie (= Applied Chemistry) which was found in 1887. Angewandte Chemie accepts articles written in Englisch and in German. Since 1960 Wiley also publishes the sister journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition (IF 13) in which all articles are in Englisch (the original ones in German are translated)

Most Canadian academic journals accept contributions in English and French, the country's two official languages. For example TTR, the journal of the Canadian Association for Translation Studies, which I happen to receive.

To all: there exist journals with such practice - authors submit article in their own language, and journal publish them in both, domestic and English language. For example, for all Croatian speaking researchers in the fields of Civil engineering, architecture and urban planning, as well as related fields, I recommend e-Zbornik - the electronic journal of the Faculty of Civil Engineering University of Mostar.

There are some journals like Journl of natural History, The Southwestern Naturalist, among others. I recommend you look at the "InCites Journal Citation Reports" website. Just access "categories", select "entomology" and check the "language" item for each journal.

Dear Erin Krichilsky I'm just wondering why you are looking for "a journal that accepts publications in two languages or at least is bilingual friendly". What is it good for to publish in different languages? We used to publish our research papers in German back in the 1970's and 1980's, but then we realized that the papers were not read by many researchers abroad. Then we switched to English to make sure that our papers are read worldwide (and eventually cited).

Frank T. Edelmann to answer your question- although English is indeed a universal language of science, publishing bilingual would allow for accessibility of a broader audience. Science may be published predominately in English but it occurs in >6000 languages. For example, conferences, annual reports of institutions, university classes, seminars, etc. happen in local languages. Writing a manuscript exclusively in English makes it easy for a native speaker to communicate ideas, but is quite a large accessibility gap to non-native speakers. Normalizing, and even standardizing, bilingual publications can reduce these barriers.
