Hey. I work on CV in general - usually trying to recognize other objects than faces. But I found Viola-Jones being pretty popular http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fileexchange/19912-open-cv-viola-jones-face-detection-in-matlab . And also Turk for the whole bunch of PCA and ICA based methods http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eigenface . Also right now I'm reading a very good book about template matching the author (Robert Brunelli) seems to have a lot of interresting thoughts about face detection as well http://books.google.ca/books?id=AowB9dRNTqYC&printsec=frontcover&dq=template+matching&hl=en&sa=X&ei=bH_hUdv2Du2y4APym4DICQ&redir_esc=y (there is a free legal suplement to the book with all the codes in R somewhere on the web).

Hi dear Anh, my name is Guadalupe I am working on emotional facial recognition on Down syndrome, we elaborated around 500 emotional faces, some of them were tested with affective priming studies in typical population, anxiety patients and persons with ID. I suggest the studies of Paul Ekman on the facial expression of emotions in different cultures and the work of Charles Darwin - The expression of emotion in man and animal.

We had a paper published recently in PLoS One which developed and validated a facial stimulus set. The set includes subtle social signals of compassion criticism and neutrality.
