Does anyone information about the legacy (memories, archives, letters and so on) of Coronel Casado, Besides the published books everybody knows? I mean:
Casado, Segismundo (1977) Así cayó Madrid, Madrid, ediciones 99.
Thanks Rob. That is the question. I read Preston's book and before the Angel Bahamonde one and a few others, but most of historians, just hate Casado because he made the biggest mistake of Spanish Civil war. But I'm looking fo understanding not for judjement. This is the point because I'm searching new papers and testimonies of Casado. Mera, Besteiro, W. Carrillo and other members of last decisions and days of Junta de Defensa. Thank you again Rob.
Casado was - it seems to me - a solid and (up to a point) successful military leader. When one of the key divisional commanders lost his nerve in the early hours of Brunete, Casado was sent for (from Valencia!) to take over, and he managed to steady the front line well enough to prepare them for the inevitable francoist counter-attack.
That is it. This is the kind of points you mention and the loyalty since the beginning of the coup the etat make me wonder about simply versions of Casado ideology, intentions ans solutions. The memory won history until know. Thanks Rob you afirmed me in the correct way
