Tuta absoluta is a species of moth in family Gelechiidae known by the common names tomato leafminer and South American tomato moth. It is well known as a serious pest of tomato crops in Europe and South America. The larva feeds voraciously upon tomato plants, producing large galleries in leaves, burrowing in stalks, and consuming apical buds and green and ripe fruits. It is capable of causing a yield loss of 100%.

I established a rearin of Tuta in the laboratory. I have to say that it is a quite simple insect to maintained in the lab. First of all you need a good rearing cage, good aislated, beacuse the larvae can go out very easy and infest other growing plants that you have around. This matter drive me to the most imporant control measure, the need to use a space isolated form other rearing of insects or plants.........
