I am planning to add either a qualitative detection or quantification of cyanogenic glycosides on my research. Please help me find protocols and methods in doing such analyses. Depending on the availability of reagents on our lab, I will decide later on if I'll have to do quali or quanti. For qualitative analysis, I only find methods that use picrate paper. Is there another alternative? Thanks in advance.

Chapter 12 in " Research Methods in Plant Science: Vol. 1. Soil Allelochemicals (2012)" by Gleadow et al. ought to give some information for you. Be VERY careful if you need to handle cyanide salts and/or HCN since they are extremely toxic!

You could probably use either GC-MS or LC-MS for qualitative analysis. See Experiment 10.
Yes that is already one of my options but in the meantime I have to phytochemically screen my extracts to be able to detect the presence of different phytochemicals, and cyanogenic glycosides is one of them. I have limited access to hyphenated chromatographic techniques.
Perhaps (if you haven't tried yet) you could fractionate them by Flash chromatography and analyze by TLC or perhaps even better: VLC+TLC? I don't, however, know which other types of phytochemicals you have in your material: separation might be somewhat tricky to achieve. I wish you good luck, though!
I will try that approach. I will still search for other simple methods for the detection of cyanogenic glycosides in plant extracts. Thank you!
