I am in the process of creating marine isoscapes by combining satellite telemetry data and isotope data from seabirds.

I know ArcGIS has a suite of interpolation methods, each of which has its own parameters to adjust.

But I know that statistical programs (specifically R) have the capability to perform the spatial interpolation of models.

I am wondering if anyone has experience in the creation of isoscapes because there are many ways to create them, but I'm not sure why to choose one method over any of the others.
