The Calgary device, also called the MBEC device, has been studied extensively. A protocol for growing and testing P. aeruginosa biofilms has been standardized with ASTM - more information regarding this protocol is available directly from ASTM (for a fee), and also described recently in J. Micro. Methods (http://www.math.montana.edu/~parker/projects/Parker2014_JMM_MBEC.pdf). I believe that Innovotech, the Canadian company that owns and manufactures the MBEC, uses Biosurface Technologies Corporation to distribute in the US (http://www.biofilms.biz/mbec-biofilm-assay)
