We know that magnesium level is hihg in CKD patients. in all CKD groups (stage 3-4 and HD, PD patients) Does anyone have experience about the use of phosphate binders containing magnesium?
Dear Sir:
Yes we are using this drug since 2012. In few cases (No more than 0,5%) we need to discontinue the treatment due to hypermagnesemia. Those cases never shown any symptomatology. The effect for phosphate binding has been quite good.
Take in account that Low Mg level is associated with poor cardiovascular outcome and in CKD patients on Hemodialysis Mg level is not so high as you believe.

thanks for your answers. why do you discontinue the mg containing drugs? is it because of blood mg levels? and how much time do you see the mg levels? once a month or more fruquently?
By 3 main reasons:
1.- Elevetation of Mg levels (Few cases)
2.- Elevation of Calcium (You can play with other drugs such Cinacalcet if needed)
3.- Intolerance to the medication
We use to measure Mg levels each 6 months in stable patients and more often (2 months) at the beginning of the treatment
