I have recently conducted some 'situated' interviews (where I carried out the interviews in an environment which was similar to the environment in which the experiences I was asking the participants about had occurred). Great results, but I am having troubles finding a reference which discusses the benefits of situated interviewing. Would be grateful for any suggestions!

Dear Jenny, just recently I read an article that might help to discuss methodological issues of your topic:
Miller, J. & Glassner, B. (2011). The inside and the outside: finding realities in interviews. In: D. Silverman (ed.), Qualitative research: Theory, method and practice (3rd ed.). Sage Publications.
I would recommend Maykut and Morehouse, Beginning qualitative research (1994). It is old but still widely sighted - slightly over 3000 citations at last count. Also, Morehouse (2013) Beginning interpretative inquiry might provide some of what you are looking for.
I can recommend Pryke, Rose & Whatmore: "Using Social Theory; Thinking Through Research" Sage Publications.
Some of the same basic ideas apply to what are known as "walking interviews."
