Has anyone any information about papers concerning pre-exposure (PrEP) prophylaxis given to people with risk for contracting other infections than HIV? There are many ethical issues concerning use of PrEP in populations at high risk to contract HIV so I am wondering whether that possibility has also been given in cases where people could be exposed to other infections. By that, I exclude vaccinations and consider only long term usage of drugs for the purpose of avoiding infections.

Thanks Clarice for this info. Are there any ethical considerations taking this approach at larger scale? Long-term effects of Truvada are not investigated yet, what if with years it show up that some percent of people get affected with kidneys' diseases? Are there any harm-reduction programs in that sense? I am wondering on these issues since the introduction of the preventive treatment seems as an easy way to improve HIV prevention, especially in countries with concentrated epidemic, but taking a drug to feel safe in sexual activities while the people are generally healthy poses significant ethical issues.
