I saw some papers about permanganate form of ion exchangers containing pyridine type active groups as heterogeneous oxidants, but our efforts to prepare similar permanganate functionalized resins led to oxidation of the benzylic groups and reducing the permanganate ion.
I have similar experiences. I collected all the papers related to permanganate form resins, but the reactive benzylic groups are always reacted with permanganates. Hundreds of experiments led to the same result. An other thing was when I tried to remove cations by sulphonated cation exchanger (oxidation resistant Dowex resin was used with high crosslinking), and a part of permanganate was transformed into permanganic acid and I could titrate back the solution. It means, highly crosllinked polyvinylpyridine type resins (perhaps but perhaps) will be able to use to use to bound permanganate.
