We recently bought a Sutter P-1000 electrode puller for pulling electrodes for patch clamping cardiac myocytes. However, we have been having a number of problems with the stability of our pipettes and recently have noticed that the jaw temperature is not decreasing when the air jets become active. More recently we also noticed some soot around the jaws. We have changed filaments on multiple occasions, and have also run the inbuilt diagnostics to no avail. We are using 2mm diameter glass and are running a 5 loop program to fabricate good pipettes.

Any advice would be more than welcome.
