It seems that there is a huge amount of literature concerning palm trees. Searching for it I got 49000 hits on google scholar (just publications from 2000 and newer). I guess you just have to dig a little.

Hi. There is an interesting and useful article on an endemic palm tree from the Canary Islands, Phoenix canariensis, published by C. MORICI (pdf file attached).

Regarding to another palm species of the Atlantic islands, Phoenix atlantidis (= P. atlantica), endemic from the Cape Verde Islands, there is a nice and useful article (I attach the pdf file).

There is also a genetic paper on Phoenix atlantidis (= P. atlantica), which reference is:
