I want to stain brain tissue. I do not have a established protocol. I found something here (http://www.nature.com/nprot/journal/v1/n3/full/nprot.2006.277.html) but I do not have any access. I need a protocol to prepare Congo Red solution and staining procedure. Would anybody please help me in this regard?

This is practical and should work fine for classical sections as long as they are not too thick:
Solution 1:
1ml 1% NaOH to 100 ml saturated ethanolic NaCl solution (2.5 g NaCl in 80% EtOH)
Solution 2: (stock)
0.2 g Congored in 100 ml saturated ethanolic NaCl solution (without NaOH!)
Solution 3:
add 1 ml 1 % NaOH to solution 2. (use quickly...)
1) Pretreat wet sections with solution_1 for 20 min
2) stain for 50 min with solution 3
3) differentiate in 80% EtOh shortly
4) dehydrate and embed.
