Does anybody know of any new promising cryoprotectants?

I was wondering if there are any novel cryoprotectants, both permeating and non-permeating.

Also, as far as i know all commercially available freeze media contain permeating CPAs like DMSO or glycerol. Are there any using non-permeating CPAs as the sole CPA?
