My student tried a method of gradually adding freshwater with 10% ethanol until ending with a 50:50 seawater:freshwater concentration, but it did not work.
We the best way to relax them has been by cold we placed one trays with sea water in the refrigerator in the most low part between 12 to 24 hours and the organisms die completely stretched
I haven't tried this with chitons but you may want to try Tricaine methanesulfonate (MS-222) or clove oil. I had success using both of these on sea stars.
Thank you Tim, I agree with you. We're only trying the cold and our original method to see which one works best. We will only do gonadosomatic index, so I guess either one is OK?
