Hello all,

In a closed looped hydronic systems, one side of the steel braided rubber hose has a fitting made from Zinc-plated steel which is coupled with the Brass fitting. After crimping the ferrules on the hose, rubber pushes out and hence there is no contact between Zinc-plate steel fitting and steel braid of the hose. At this point, let’s assume the difference in the anodic index between the dissimilar metals (Zinc-plated steel and Brass) is causing a galvanic corrosion and let’s assume the ratio of cathode and anode area is not a problem. The argument then would be: “Does the rubber hose in the loop act as a dielectric barrier, breaking the electro-motive force and reducing the ability of the water, as an electrolyte, to aid in galvanic corrosion as it is circulating the loop?”, Or “Is it true that the rubber hose has nothing to do with breaking the emf ?“, “How does it relate to enhancing or mitigating the corrosion if each respective case were true ?” Please also explain on how length of hose, pH and other factors are related in each case.

Thank you and looking forward to hear some interesting insights !

Regards
