Employers discriminate quite reasonably against job applicants with poor literary skills. Is there any evidence for women having lower literacy in developed countries? I thought they had better literacy, less dyslexia. etc.

While any organization is within its right to identify people with dyslexia or any other neurobiological problem, the differentiation on gender basis is sin. Earlier retirement age was different for men and women even in many developed countries, although it has now been gradually phased out. Even today in many developed countries female CEOs receive lesser remuneration package than their male counterpart, although being equally educated and competent. There are less number of female CEOs in Fortune 500 companies, although women account for may be slightly less than half the workforce. Therefore gender discrimination is still a matter of discussion, regardless of whether a country is developed, developing or underdeveloped.

When two groups are compared with respect to a variable of interest, the first thing to establish is that they do not differ on other important and relevant confounding variables. Just three that have been overlooked are the experience or work history of the candidates, whether they work full or part time, and the size and sex distribution of the pool of qualified applicants.

So one should start with simpler alternative explanations, like that women often for various reasons work fewer hours, before jumping to more complex and divisive explanations.

Thanks Anthony. I agree that multiple parameters are required to be considered. However, the very generalized statement made by me, is because of existence of gender discrimination in different parts of the world in some form or other. This social menace needs to be eradicated through women's education,empowerment and emancipation through development of respect for human values.
