Now a days, I see a close coordination or in other words lobbying among researcher groups that are working on climate change. This group seems quite dominant right now as the issues regarding climate change and their mitigation is on the priority list of many developed and developing countries. Therefore, they are getting lot of support including financial from governments and bodies like UNO & World Bank etc

I think what really exists, are "scientific channels". In order to be successful you should belong to such a channel. This is not strange since these channels are composed of very influential scientists, and they keep a level of quality.

If we talk about lobbying in science, this is different of the common meaning of the word The problem is in selecting the best candidates, and this lobbying may help towards this. Negative examples are rare!

@Asmat: Dear Asmat, you are right! There are cases that if you are outside a certain group, you do not exists. "Climate change" is one example with millions of dollars on the table. Another is "analytical philosophy" in some American Universities. They just ignore "continental philosophies"!

Exactly, Respected Costas Drossos, this is what I mean that if you are outside a certain group, you do not exist or face tremendous difficulties to exist . Because collaborations are essentially required. Even countries are using channels like G-8 and D-8 etc to rise in a better way. Thanks for quoting and adding more i.e.. Dear @Asmat, I think that there is lobbying among research scholars and research groups; this is sometimes to facilitate the research of the group, and unfortunately, in some cases, lobbying has negative impact on the process of research in many ways.

I think that there is lobbying among research scholars or research groups in some universities .This group of scholars (which has absolute loyalty to the administration even if it is corrupt) will have all the resources available to them & many opportunities will be opened wide for them.

Usually, this group is small in number and it tries hard to have monopoly over most if not all the available resources. With the support of the administration& its press machine, they become seen as the best in the university. Others (even if there is Einstein among them!) are isolated & are fought by all means to prevent them from any progress.

In my opinion, this behavior is a real obstacle in front of the progress of all the humankind.

It is a bad phenomenon but it is a reality! It exists everywhere.

Sometime you dont need to be expert in the field. All you need are: be smooth-tongued, act flattering and have good connections.

Dear Kamal, I consider such scientist in softer form as celebrities. The rest features are in Poland, analogous to those which you indicated.

Dear Kamal, the word salesmen you used, seems to be optimal, to professional purposes of such "scientists" to whom money and time are basic values. I'm not speaking now of honest economists.

My Dear Asmat, Surely there are lobbyist amongst researchers in all disciplines. But you will not find them active on RG. They must be busy lobbying with some powerful agencies or individuals who can benefit them.

I agree with Kamal and Bebi. It is a world wide phenomenon and I rarely see them on RG. Fortunately the majority of researcher do not participate in this many do research for the love of it and are satisfied with their quality work.
