Wisam Thamer Al-Mayah, the visualization provided by GISs can be a very useful tool, especially in environmental contexts due to the spatial distribution of many parameters and variables. However, it depends who these studies and assessments are intended for (your audience). We recently published a review on the development of environmental decision support systems, looking at what factors influenced their use and success (link below). Despite the growing use of GIS software alongside a variety of environmental assessments, they can detract from effective analysis in certain cases. As we note in the review (section 4.3.1), GISs can lead to the generation and visualization of a lot of information, something that can be overwhelming for decision-makers who may not be experts in the field. It is very important to properly curate the integration of GISs to ensure their effective use, otherwise they can just become another step between experts/decision-makers and the data/assessment.

Since water and health data have spatial attributes , it is useful to visualize these data on a GIS-produced map. Combining the WQIs with GIS enables more in-depth analysis of drinking water quality and therefore is a positive contribution to the protection of public health.
