I can see that everything is going to change after the current pandemic. I believe also that world practices of research and publication will undergo serious changes.
In my opinion, the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic SARS-CoV-2 (causing Covid-19 disease) will cause many changes in the areas of compliance with anti-pandemic safety principles, in social, economic, communication with the use of technology etc. SARS-CoV-2 and the impact of this pandemic on various spheres of human functioning and life, the environment, etc. A derivative of this increase in interest in the issues of the Coronavirus pandemic is the increase in the number of new research projects that have been opened to examine specific aspects related to the sources, development, and effects of this pandemics, specificity of pandemic development, key determinants of the infection process, social resistance factors, vaccine invention, etc. It will be possible to increase the use of specific research techniques and analytical methods adequate for the implementation of specific research projects stuffs. Currently, due to the recommendations of home quarantine and suspension of the stationary functioning of the university, traditionally organized conferences have been turned into remote videoconferences conducted via the Internet. The scale of digitization of communication processes and interpersonal contacts is growing, which are implemented mainly remotely via the Internet using various types of messengers and social media portals. On the other hand, will there be major changes in the world of science, in the sphere of new research methodologies used, in the field of applied research practices and the process of publishing research results, it will turn out in a few months, when we will know more about the specifics of development and expiry of this pandemic and the effects being its derivative.
Less long-travelling to conferences just for academic status reasons. Faster and more agile publication - so the content does not become historical before publication. Peer review in some cases after first publication. More interactive academic discussion of contemporary problems - not only parallel publishing pointing in different directions but not really discussing problems or discoveries.
In ancient India, in the periods beyond the memory of man, a lot of things were never written. They were just passed on orally from one person to another and from one generation to another. If these publications would have been published, they would have produced some real fat books. The problem with oral transferring of important researches meant that despite best efforts some part of it will get lost during the process and that was always unavoidable.
What this pandemic has done is that it is taking us back. Just imagine, if this pandemic lingers or it causes more irreparable damage before getting vanished, then we will have to go ahead with social isolation. We cannot interact normally with each other and publish researches. I know in India a lot of publishing houses, who have stopped printing their journals. They are just producing electronic versions of the journals. It is because due to the pandemic they have stopped operations in their press. In this way, if we are unable to publish researches, then that day is not far away when we have to depend on oral transfer of knowledge materials. That will take us back and not forward. This is keeping me a little worried about the future of research practices and publications. Due to certain obligations, probably as a result of this pandemic, we will have to go back to the pages of history. We will be forced to follow methods that we had left long ago because of some problem or deficiency attached to those methods.
Yes, I feel surely research practices and publications will go a serious negative change after this corona pandemic. I am worried about that.
The change will not be necessarily in the research practices, rather in interdisciplinary research content. No doubt the Corona Virus pandemic marks a turning point in all fields of knowledge
