There may be different motives for researchers to participate in RG. It seems that many just want to gain prestige by getting recommended or followed, and others are really interested in sharing new knowledge.
thank you for your answer, I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, many think RG is just a research social media platform. Like the Facebook and Instagram of researchers.
In addition to learning, sharing, and exchanging science I hope that more researchers will use RG as a tool to make new contacts and then cultivate those contacts to develop new collaborative research programs and projects.
In addition to what has been said already: It is also a great tool to stay up to date in your field, get alerted of new publications and meet colleagues.
You are right Tobias, and I would like to extend my deep gratitude to all those who share their reprints in PDF format with those of us that do not have access to e-journals.
ResearchGate (RG) can help both aims of the scholars, to share their research and visibility as well as to increase their prestige in the scientific community.
First, I use the RG to check trends on the topics of interest to me, and I also use the platform to make my research available to the research community.
Dear Alejandro Rodriguez-Garcia, thanks for your great question.
I participate in RG mainly to network with other research scholars. I have been fighting with acute nerve problems for several years and my research achievement has been minimal. However, since joining RG, I've been pleased whenever a large number of giant research scholars recommend anything of mine.
It enables me to gain new knowledge, share my knowledge, and also helps me increase my visibility in the scientific community of the world.
I'm now fond of the RG platform because I believe it significantly aids in the healing of my nerve problems. I'm sad when I feel very sick and can't go to RG due to other important professional obligations. For me, RG is a favorite platform.
