Haemoglobin is a serious problem during purification and analysis of antioxidant enzymes from red blood cells. For this reason it could be necessary to remove Hb in order to obtain a clear supernatant.
i don't know the tsuchihashi's method but for a study on cystein oxidation in RBCs, we removed Hb from soluble extracts by IMAC chromatography with Ni-loaded solid phase. The study isn't published yet but you might be interested in a previous paper:
