Infusing a career theme into the school curriculum is a daunting task, but offers many benefits. As your insightful question reflects, integration of school subjects with career development aims to make the targeted subject more relevant and fun while making learners internalize  transferable life skills. Have each student develop in language class, short ppt presentation on:

1. Brief explanation of their career of choice

2. Identify three skills required in that career.

3. Identify basic educational attainment level requried.

4. Present location-specific beginning salary range

5. Identify three reasons why stuident wants to pursue this career.

Math class

Have each student present two  to three questions that need to be solved mathematically in her/his chosen career path. Answer each question, mathematically and demonstrate that it was corrrectly solved.

Find  teachers in the areas where some students might like to learn more significant things.  start and online discussion or message list for students interested and have the students assign lessons from the kahn academy and recommend a book to do some reading in.    Given them a list of topics they should each choose a different one by student doing  first choice for  a topic gets it.   Each one was write a lesson  about that topic and put it in the conference or discussion for the others.   also you could allow pairs to form to work together on a topic.   finding teachers willing to do the extra work is not easy.    But i do remember a long time ago when teachers were always willing to help a child that wanted to learn more about a subject by giving extra assignments for them.  The online learning with a message list or discussion bulletin board could be regularly used with a whole class to allow discussions and questions outside of the class time.  

The kahn academy has lessons for all the public grades and i have been assigning somethings to my grandson to further his current interests.   The parents could be invited to join in to help out.

many college teachers use it to suggest students missing some prior material from courses they have had but need for the current course assign lessons to each student that needs to get more background knowledge.

it also starts with courses from kindergarten on up.   They had grant funding to create material for pubic schools.   A lot of parents use their courses for their children when they feel they might need it or enjoy it

It seems that this issue is more related to curriculum designers as in many educational contexts in the world, teachers have to teach the assigned coursebooks/learning materials. 

But if teachers have that scope of maneuvering, they should focus more on the practical aspects of teaching materials, or make students aware of skills that they need to be successful in the future.  

School might have criteria for what areas of knowledge should be covered in a course but in principle the teacher should be allowed to decide how to teach it.

when i went to public school all the teachers had at least a bachelors in the area of the course they taught and now not requiring that of teachers but only a degree in education is one of the current faults of our society.  my history teacher had a phd in high school and my math teacher had a masters.

Integrate real world examples into the assignments. Perhaps bring in guest speakers from fields that interest your students to speak about how these core subjects are used in their work. Designate projects that require research into how students will use these subjects in their future careers. Arrange job shadows or on-site demonstrations to give the students a hands-on feel for how what they're learning is used. Involve live twitter chats, synchronous discussions, Skype chats, or other digital AMAs with individuals that can show them what their studies in action look like. Reach out to local organizations and see if your students can volunteer, get involved in externships, or if they can offer job shadowing or internships - while these may not be in the classroom the idea that the unit bleeds into the real world can motivate them.

For any child to succeed in any professional field today the first good set of courses to complete is math.   one should in high school have algerbra, geometry, a course that introduces derivatives and integrals and applications in that course physical problems.

Also, a senior course in probability and statistics.   Whether is businesses or any of the sciences or engineering this is a very useful foundation.

If it is professional fields other than business i would recommend  courses in biology, chemistry, and physics.   Also a good course to understand investments and economic markets following the statistic course would be a great improvement in a high school education.   There are still too many people today that don't even understand how loans can really ruin their future.

I think that career development / teaching with learning materials (math, language ...) for high school students is based on developing the content of science and mathematics and demonstrating the interrelationship between them
