This may be the main problem with specialised textbooks for learning - most teachers using them do not comply with the textbook strategies, and give students other kinds of instructions on what to read or not, and in which sections and orders. That is why, I think, the specialised textbook for learning should be avoided as much as possible. It is the teacher that should balance the resources in a course. Self-instruction is another thing.
