Y el texto de Don Fernando Barrietos, si bien puede no ser actual, no deja de aportar elementos relevantes al debate y análisis. Gracias realmente.
This might not be exactly what you are interested in but the following paper provides evidence (from mayoral elections in Germany) that competitiveness in the first round is highly related to competitiveness in the second round (see Table 3):
