We would like to feed carnivorous plants with 15N-labled Drosophila. Does anyone know if there is a vendor who sells 15N-labled yeast that could then be used in Drosophila artificial diet?
Dr. Kessler, Greetings! Hope all is well in Ithaca. sounds like you are embarking on a novel project. I think Cambridge Isotope Labs has an N15-labeled ammonium chloride yeast medium for sale. Are you going to isolate and identify N15 metabolites from FF's using Ian's GCMS method? Back in the day, the HP quadpole MS could reliably differentiate between N14 and N15 nic....I thought that was pretty cool. Take care, BobJ
Dear Bob, thank you for the tip. The idea is actually to feed carnivorous Drosera plants and see what plant parts can efficiently digest insects. So the ideal for us would be a labled yeast on which we can grow then labeled Drosophila as food for the plants.
It would be great to see you again sometime soon to catch up.
