Canning is a method of preserving food in which the food contents are processed and sealed in an airtight container. Canning provides a shelf life typically ranging from one to five years, although under specific circumstances it can be much longer.
Packaging materials not so important important is food contact materials in your mentioned area is composition of metal or synthetic material which used in food canning which have certain criteria come from food safety legislation in this area of food safety MSDS not applicable.
MSDS are commonly prepared for chemicals, for packaging materials like glass industries have separate documents like glass handling policies. Most of the packaging materials are covered in Aspect Impact studies.

I see advantages in providing MSDS for packing materials because some linings on tins tend to leach out some chemicals over time and there is always concern about plasticizers used in packing materials. From a practical perspective, as it is people are not reading directions and instructions that you get with each item you buy, be it on the package itself or sent separately as in products ordered online. That being said, while the MSDS has useful data, it is very unlikely that the "masses" are going to read and benefit from it. True scientists (or chemists) like you and me and many others may show some interest. Also, unless the government regulates that MSDS is a must with every food product that is packaged, the industry is not going to do that. It took a great deal of effort before the tobacco industry started putting out serious warnings on cigarette packets - after multi-billion dollar lawsuits against the industry!
If plastic is used as packaging materials then it's properties are considered at time of package design and manufacturing. Food packaging materials are considered good if no leaching of monomers or chemicals are there.
Package should be inert in nature.
MSDS and other properties are considered during development.
Yes during manufacturing of packaging materials MSDS should be there for chemical handling.
Packaging materials are not related to the labeling mark on the food packaging. They are placed to protect the consumer to clarify the date of production, consumption, expiration and the nature of the materials involved in the manufacture of the product and the proportions of the components are a means of protection for consumers. The packaging materials may be metal, plastic or glass
The process of keeping food in our present time is so important that it may threaten the life of the user. The general trend in food preservation is the use of metallic and sometimes plastic materials, but I think there is a real need to use organic materials with a longer decomposition time than food decomposition. Which may help in keeping food safer and I think this step will be more environmentally friendly
