Your question states the need of handling the soil moisture sensors with the TelosB mote.

I'm not very familiar with such, but I can see that most of them utilizes 2xAA battery that will produce only 3V. You will have to look at this carefully since most soil moisture sensors might need a greater power up voltage.

On the other hand, if you are working with the TelosB CM3300 which has a DC input, that you might use to power up with larger voltages only the sensors.

So, about the soil moisture sensors there is a good number of them available in the Int. Market. First of all I would list the DECAGON EC-5, because allows you to use excitation voltages inferior to 3V (2.5 - 3.6 V DC @ 10 mA. Output proportional to input voltage). But, you will have to make sure to calibrate them depending on excitation voltages utilized.

Then, there is the Stevens Water Hydra Probe II, Delta-T SM-150, TDR from Campbell, IMKO PICO IPH/T3 or PICO 32, Aqua Spy, Sentek EnviroSCAN, etc, etc.

I am not that familiar with the TelosB, but to second what Felix Ruben Arguedas-Rodriguez  said, the Decagon EC-5 is really useful. We've deployed them under a rang of climatic conditions, from warm riparian areas to high-altitude watersheds and found them to be incredibly reliable and easier to calibrate to various soil types.
