The area of Kabul New City (KNC) has watersheds with steep slope topography frequently lead a flood and a soil erosion in the rainy season. On the other hand, KNC area always suffers a water scarcity problem in dry season.
There are no permanent water resources, including ground water, which supply enough water for KNC. KNC will have to depend upon the external water resources far from KNC, and also have to save the water consumption by the use of rainwater.

Now a days every where the Government of India is propagating conservation of water resources through rain water harvesting. You have to understand one thing that whatever the rainfall pattern in a given region, if there is reduction in that rainfall, then one has to think of water conservation. Because all the planning related to water availability depends on the long term average of rainfall. aa (including agricultural practices)a. Usually rainwater harvesting is done to recharge groundwater or to conserve the roof-top runoff in storage tanks for use in summer periods.
With steep slopes; soil erosion problem and low rainfall, the best way of water conservation is through rainwater harvesting.
The given average annual rainfall is suitable for rooftop rainwater harvesting due to high runoff efficiency provided that number of rainfall events and rainfall amount per event qualify. I have provided theoretical curves for rainwater harvesting for an area of average annual rainfall of 150 mm in Mediterranean, which can be used as guide, if needed (Ref. Rainwater Cisterns, ICARDA).
Hi You can use rainfall less than this amount. If you choose more area, you can extract more water. Also, if you have more rainfall, you need a smaller area to collect a certain amount. Of course, this depends on the amount of water needed, number of rainfall events and Intensity and continuity of rainfall .
