you note highly integrative questions in the context of desire. desire opens the door to pull it through to innovation and creativity. for something to be creative, it must be new and desired/ useful - a core argument in creativity literature. desire can also be conceptualized as value, value added, benefit, etc - all proxies for intent from a business point of view.

in my opinion, it relates to the fundamental question whether purpose or intent is unbounded or bounded, constrained or unconstrained, an open set or a closed set - however you wish to put it. from a business context, the same question applies to the business application of purpose or intent as concept. is benefit or value bounded or unbounded?

my view is that purpose, intent and value, etc are bounded rather than unbounded. there are infinite (unbounded) possibilities, but the fact that it must be desired/ useful renders it finite (bounded). there are finite classes of usefulness. see my paper: Benefit as a Medium for Value Creation and Innovation

highly integrative questions are thus a question of intent or purpose. it is similar in context to creative thinking techniques. i know of more than 20 creative thinking techniques. once you study them (look them up) you will quickly note the similarities.

Techniques that empower exploration of multiple dimensions and perspectives. Something like the Soft Systems Methodology - Checkland (1999). Mode 2 of SSM proposes that users should develop and their own applications for different purposes - in this case to build in tools for creative exploration. Alternatively, explore contextual dependencies and unique individual perspectives, using an approach such as SST framework (Bednar, 2000. A Contextual integratiin of individual and organizational learning perspectives. Informing Science 3). Flipping of perspectives might be built into creative exploration using an approach such as Flood’s 4 windows (Flood, 1999. Rethinking the Fifth Discipline: Learning within the Unknowable).

According to a few researcher in my network, grounded theory also helps for researching about a unknown field. Since I conduct interviews, this research method helps to make sense of my data.

it depends on what you mean by interview, and your interview design. interviews can be a research method on its own. also, it is possible to interview, for the purpose of doing grounded theory

note the similarities and differences between grounded theory and interviews (as methodology). both are good for researching unknown fields

The interviews are indeed used with the purpose of doing grounded theory. Since we want to explore the landscape of highly integrative questions, we use data from the interviews to make sense of the literature.

By that we hope to get answers on the questions:

• What are highly integrated questions?
• Where can we find highly integrated questions?
• Who is involved in highly integrated questions?

As a second layer of the project, we are going to explore cases around the thread of highly integrated questions:

• What are recent cases that work around highly integrated questions?
• What can we learn from these cases?
• How to approach highly integrated questions?

Anyone knows about recent cases/best practices that deal with integrated questions? (e.g. Creating a smog-free city, How does AI affects future work? etc.)
