i noticed that the thyroid gland of some patients is quite low, similar to that of muscles. and the CT scan was described for various reasons, even including regular health checks. i tried pubmed, without any results. maybe because i used the wrong keywords, as i am not familiar with thyroid disease.

I have seen ultrasound hypoechoic thyroid glands described as a characteristic of chronic thyroiditis and I have seen some hypothyroid patients with that ultrasonography sign, another ultrasound change is an image with many tiny hipoechoic round figures (as the skin of a tiger) and in some journals they say that it may be a more initial change than peroxidase antiboides...
These findings can often lead to a diagnostic dilemma, as the CT reflects the nonspecific appearances. Ultrasound (US) examination has a superior spatial resolution and is considered the modality of choice for thyroid evaluation.

Need to check for symptoms, medications causing thyroiditis,TSH,T4/T3, anti-TG, anti-TPO.
I have also seen several cases with thyrotoxicosis without exophthalmos and with a very small gland without nodules and without previous amiodarone ingestión. In several of those cases they have shown no tecnesium uptake by the thyroid gland scan and the thyroid peroxidase values have been increased, suggesting thyroiditis as the cause of the thyrotoxicosis, which may be explained by thyroid desctruction (autoinmune ?) or Hashitoxicosis.
