For last few decades only primary nutrients have been used and the reverse of other nutrients have been exploited fully to achieve higher yield of crops. Now soils are showing deficiency of many macro and micro nutrients in developing countries. Is it the right time to carry out research on SSNM and reccomend the same?
Only SSNM won't help much in this regard, but for sustaining the soil health we should better emphasized on INM based soil and plant nutrition because in SSNM we are only targeting the feeding zone of plant and only see the plant nutrient requirement but INM based nutrient management not only provide nutrition to plants but also feed the soil and the soil-ecosystem engineers i.e. microbes residing in the rhizosphere, maintaining the nutrient dynamics and soil carbon pool and may help us and future generation in achieving the potential yield of crops.

To achieve the potential yield of a crop, it depends on several factors in the field condition like crop factors, soil factors, climate factors and cultivation methods. If all the factors are in line then the crop can achieve its potential yield. SSNM can be a one of the methodology to contribute from soil factors.
Sir, i think SSNM is more like a money saving aspect, which indirectly contributes to more benefit. but the yield is definitely high in case of traditional methods. but i think we should recommend SSNM , or split application or LCC based Nitrogen manag. from my research i have got that fertilizer application at LCC 5 in an intercropping sysyem is at par with sole maize full dose application in 2 slpits
customized fertilizer is way better than SSNM technique which improves the nutrient enhancement of any crop.
SSNM is one of the best options to improve the nutrient use efficiency as per the requirements. But with regard to achieving potential yield of the crops there so many factors which affect the crop growth and yield in field condition. SSNM can be one option among all the factors to achieve potential yield.
